Jonathan Hives

Chief Executive

Jonathan has worked in international financial planning for 16 years and across three continents. He has advised high-net-worth individuals and family estates in London, New York, Barcelona, Dubai, Malta and Frankfurt, practising in all areas of wealth and succession planning. He has invaluable first-hand experience when it comes to cross-border financial planning. 

Jonathan prides himself on the service he provides, which is highly personalised, proactive and bespoke to his clients’ objectives.

He is an active member of the Chartered Insurance Institute, where he holds the Diploma in Financial Planning. In addition, he holds Certificates in i) Discretionary Investment Management, ii) Financial Services and iii) Life and Pensions. He is qualified as an Investment Adviser in the United States (Series 65) and as a European Financial Advisor by the European Financial Planning Association. Jonathan also holds a BA (Hons) degree in Finance & Investment Management.

Tobias Band

Managing Director

Toby began his career with a large international financial advisory, where he became their youngest ever Area Manager and was responsible for High-Net-Worth Wealth Management in ten European countries.

Toby’s mission is to bring high quality advice and excellent service back to financial advice. To ensure his clients are confident and on the right path whatever the twists and turns of life, his approach is simple: listen carefully, be unbiased in analysis, present options clearly, and review regularly.

Toby is an active member of the Chartered Insurance Institute, where he holds a Diploma in Financial Planning and a Level 6 CII Pension Transfer Specialist Certificate. He is also certified as a European Financial Advisor by the European Financial Planning Association and holds a BSc (Hons) in Mathematics.

Ben Barratt

Managing Director

Ben started his career in the world of international wealth management, where he spent a number of years in Malta and Barcelona working with UK expats on various aspects of their financial affairs.

Ben is particularly focused on delivering a high-quality and personal service, ensuring that he is always on hand to assist his clients when needed. 

As a Chartered Fellow of the Institute for Securities & Investment, Ben has continued to add to his repertoire of professional knowledge. As a result of his achievements within the institute, Ben now sits on two exam boards that help to set the syllabus and examination papers for future generations of wealth managers.

He also holds a level 6 Pension Transfer Specialist qualification, a Diploma in Investment Advice (Securities), a Diploma in Investment Advice (Financial Planning & Advice), a Certificate in Pension Transfers & Planning Advice, a Certificate in Paraplanning and a BSc (Hons) in Economics.

Kyla Conway

Head of Operations

As Head of Operations, Kyla provides support to the Directors and ensures the smooth running of First Sentinel Wealth. Kyla works closely with senior management to develop long term operational strategies and ensure company objectives are met. Kyla also skilfully manages administrative duties and coordinates all logistics within the company, as well as acting as the first point of contact for clients and investment partners.

Kyla previously worked as a Private Personal Assistant, managing operations abroad in Spain, the Netherlands and the UK. This experience developed skills that make her an invaluable part of the team at First Sentinel Wealth and for our clients too.

Kyla holds a BSc (Hons) in Geography from Newcastle University and is also skilled in Digital Marketing. 

Barry Cridland

Compliance Officer

Barry has worked a lifetime in the world of finance.

Through sales, marketing, product development and analysis, he moved into Strategy and Governance.

Along the way Barry has acted on Cross Industry Committee, notably on DB Pension Transfers; become the moral judge for a leading provider on transfers; built fund ranges for pensions and bonds; acted as a business negotiator between providers and major Advice companies: planned, built and delivered polices and products and achieved high management levels at both Financial Advisors and Product Providers.

Along the way, Barry has acquired a wealth of experience and knowledge which he now shares through his role as a Compliance and Business Consultant. This is bolstered through a long and developed relationship with regulators from PIA to FCA and an understanding of how working with the regulator can benefit the Advisor.

Looking forward, Barry runs his own, growing, Consultancy and is working, at FSW, with colleagues he has a strong relationship with, and a high respect for.

Bruce Marsh

Independent Financial Adviser

Bruce has worked in Financial Services for over thirty years both advising clients and as a Professional SIPP and SSAS Trustee.

Bruce has always put building trust and giving clear understandable solutions to his client’s needs at the centre of his approach along with delivering personal service.

Having established and grown the Edinburgh office of a specialist SIPP/SSAS Provider, going through all the issues and the experiences when starting a Business through to selling it, he is well placed to work with and advise other business owners helping them to protect their investment.

Paolo Sidoli

Non Executive Director

Paolo has a career of experience in the computer hardware and software industries across multiple countries and companies.

He holds an engineering degree from Oxford University and is the inventor of multiple patents.

In 2007 he founded a startup which was recently sold to the largest private Italian software company. During this time, he gained extensive first-hand knowledge related to all aspects of managing and growing a newly formed company.

In his role as non-executive director, he is keen to share this expertise and to help FSW encompass and use technology to differentiate itself and to provide clients with a leading-edge experience.

Gary Morely

Merger and Acquisition Specialist

Gary has been advising on the sale of owner-managed businesses for over 30 years and is the author of the very well received book ‘How to sell your business and live happily ever after’ which is in its seventh edition. For many years he lectured on the subject to fellow professionals across the British Isles.

Gary’s extensive experience allows him to provide a full ‘hands-on’ service for what is often the biggest financial transaction the owner will ever undertake. He is proud of the quality and depth of support he provides and of the numerous client testimonials he has received.

Gary is a Chartered Accountant having qualified with what is now a “Big Four” firm. Specialising in private company corporate finance, he went onto become a partner in a national and then an international firm of Chartered Accountants. Unusually, he has also had experience on the other side of the desk having been Financial Director of two highly acquisitive quoted companies.

He also believes in supporting the community: he has been chairman of a national charity and vice chairman of an international charity. He has been Honorary Treasurer of City YMCA and for ten years a Governor of University of Westminster. Gary is also a past master of a City Livery Company.

Oskar Puntmann

Administrative Assistant

As an administrative assistant, Oskar works to support the team in their day-to-day needs. This includes any admin work, CRM management and data analysis, while also researching for the FSW Blog articles.

He previously spent two months interning at First Sentinel Wealth prior to working here, gaining valuable experience regarding the ins and outs of the industry.

Oskar speaks English and German and is currently studying an English Law and German Law LLB at UCL and the University of Cologne.
